Alexander Rybak – “Christmas Tales”

From Fairytale to Christmas music

Most of us know Alexander Rybak best as the boy, who brought home the gold in the Eurovision Song Contest. Some have also seen him in the talent-competition “Idol” and we have all, in some way or another, heard the song Fairytale. Now, he has put together a Christmas album, which has got the title “Christmas Tales”.

I for my part, got more than enough of this man in the Fairytale-time, but will try the best I can to review the album objective and with an open mind. My first thought about the album is that it is very much in Rybak-style and easy to recognize. It is clear that he has managed, to put his own touch to well-known Christmas songs.

Photo: A little embarrassing: For Selina (10) and Anea Bråten(8) it was a little embarrassing, but very fun to have their picture taken with their hero Alexander Rybak. They had a good evening at the concert and would like to go to another.

Had picture taken with their idol

Pleased Sarpsborg girls got to meet Alexander Rybak after the Christmas concert.

Selina (10) and Anea Bråten (8) did not want to go to the Christmas concert. Until they heard that Alexander Rybak would come.

-”It was kind of strange to see him for real, since I have only seen him on tv”, says Selina – whom, together with her sister was very pleased, when they after the Christmas concert ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’ in Tune church got their picture with Rybak.
-”He is very clever, and the concert was good. I have liked him for a long time. I didn’t want to go to the Christmas concert, actually – until Mom told me that Rybak was coming”, Selina smiles.
In spite of the happiness, she thought it a little embarrassing to meet the star violinist.
-”But it wasn’t scary – he is very kind”, the 10-years old said.

Photo: The quintet, that filled Immanuels church yesterday evening: Alexander Rybak, Marian Aas Hansen, Tor Endresen, Elisabeth Andreassen and Rune Larsen. A performance which, also visually, showed the church in a stylish light.

Great voices in full church

Thursday evening, Halden and Immanuels church was visited by the finest Christmas-concert-veterans in the country. Something, a fully booked church knew how to appreciate.

The influx of people who want musical help, to get in the right Christmas-mood, is apparently significant. It was said, that there were more than 900 on the pews and that people had come all the way from Oslo to fill up the last seats. The Bergen-native Rune Larsen, is among those who have made Christmas-concerts of the most spectacular kind for the longest time and thus, this year’s version of “Stille Natt, Hellige Natt” is actually a 25-year anniversary.

The quintet consisting of Alexander Rybak (from left), Marian Aas Hansen, Tor Endresen, Elisabeth Andreassen and Rune Larsen performed Christmas songs in front of an almost packed Sandefjord Church.

Filled the church with Christmas songs.

There were few empty seats in Sandefjord Church when “Stille Natt Hellige Natt” was visiting Friday.

The quintet consisting of Rune Larsen, Marian Aas Hansen, Tor Endresen, Elisabeth Andreassen and Alexander Rybak attracted hundreds of people of all ages in Christmas mood to the Christmas concert.
It was Alexander Rybak who had the honour of opening a program, fully packed of traditional Christmas songs, as he started with the classic “Glade Jul” on the violin, before the quintet’s four remaining members joined with vocals.
